Glorious box flares for your time. I finally quit my job at the world’s sketchiest buy-here-pay-here with leasing dealership in existence. I now work at a Chevy dealership as a lube tech with the possibility of becoming an apprentice mechanic and eventually get ASE certified and all that jazz. Usual starting pay is $8 hour or so but they started me at $10 an hour for some reason, which is a nice bump over what I was making in the ghetto. Commute is twice as long but I’m hoping to move into town soon so that should all be good. I just finished peeing in a cup and I start Wednesday. Super excite.

That’s a funny way of saying “it puts the lotion on its skin”.

Ah, I assumed by your name that you lived in Canada, my bad. Anyway, that’s about on par with Alberta and British Columbia who are at $10.20/hour ($7.80 USD). Ontario is $11/hour ($8.40 USD) and increasing to $11.25/hour ($8.60 USD) in October. We’re basically the California equivalent for Canada.

Figures minimum wage is going up just as I leave a minimum wage job.

Heh. Lube tech.
Congrats, though. There are quite a few websites that would probably hire you to be a lube tech for them. (I’ll stop now)

I’ve never actually had a tank of mostly-highway driving, so it’ll be interesting to see what I actually get.

Nah, my daily driver Honda Civic is a Canadian domestic market car that I call the Angry Canadian. Ben Rolland thinks I should call it Wheelchair Jimmy, though.

Wheelchair Jimmy sounds way cooler.

Wheelchair Jimmy is the most gangsta Drake will ever be.

I personally think minimum wage should be at least $13-14/hour because really who can live comfortably and save up money making $11/hour when you pay so much tax on it.
Definitely a lot more than it used to be though. When I was 18 back in ‘02, minimum wage was only $6.85 working as a cleaner. These days I have no complaints about how much I make.

Congrats!
Obligatory advice, take it or leave it:
1. Respect everyone who has been doing this longer than you.
2. Don’t forget to torque things.
3. Don’t forget to put oil in.
4. Always make sure to not double gasket the filter.
5. If you borrow a tool more than twice it’s time to buy your own.
6. Respect. Others and their property/tools (I know it’s in here twice, there’s a reason for that).
Good luck, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
